Winter Steelhead

Well it looks like another deep freeze is on it's way to West Michigan, it's been a real Winter for sure.  Steelhead fishing has been good when you can get out, we have been catching fish float fishing, back bouncing and plug fishing the last few days.  There is little to no boat traffic on days the temp is not forcasted to be above 25 degrees so fish are not pressured.  Hopefully the next warm up will take us into Spring like weather patterns because it is much more comfortable to fish in above freezing temps.  I still have openings in March and April so if you want to get after some Spring Steelhead give me a call.  (616)204-4999.
Below are a couple recent pictures of some aggressive plug biters.

February Steelhead

Steelhead fishing on the Muskegon River remains good.  Today's rain will hopefully put enough water in the system to help move some ice out of the lower river as I'm sure those fish down there are ready to go.  5 hour half day trips are the way to go in the Winter and have been productive thus far so if you are looking to get out give me a call.  (616)204-4999  I still have some dates open for this Spring in March and April but they won't last long.  Here are a few pictures from the last two days on the river.

Michigan Winter Steelhead Fishing

Steelhead fishing has been good this Winter on the Muskegon River despite colder than normal air temps.  Water level is around 1,900 cfs and temp is in the low 30's.  Boat traffic is very low on most days and busy days have been a couple other boats.  Access is limited to the town of Newaygo up to Croton Dam due to poor launch conditions and a frozen river downstream.  We have been splitting our time between back bouncing and float fishing and both methods are producing good numbers of fish.  The forecast shows a warm up for next week so if you have a case of cabin fever to get rid of give me a call and book a Winter Steelhead trip before the Spring crowds show up.  For those of you waiting for warmer weather I still have some openings in March and April for Spring Steelhead but they will book up quick.  Ok now for the good stuff, here are Ed and Fritz with just a couple of the fish they caught today.

Hit the river for just a couple hours today and the bite was not too bad.  We hit a decent number of Steelhead and a nice bonus Lake Run Brown Trout.

Muskegon River Fishing Report

Ed and Fritz were back on the Muskegon today after Ed's 6 week Florida vacation.  We had lots of shelf ice to deal with and did end up running into a section that blocked passage but we caught fish.  Spring dates are filling up so get a day or two on the books before they are all gone.

2/5/2014  Ed's welcome home Steelhead.  That tan won't last in this weather.

2/5/2014  Fritz with a nice fat hen.

2/5/2014  Ed peeking out from under his hat to smile for the camera.
