It’s March already but winter isn’t done with us yet.  Looks like another little cold snap on the way for next week then the possibility of some mild weather on the way.  There are Steelhead throughout the river and fishing has been decent when we’ve gotten out.  We will likely get a good flush of water once it warms up with all the snow pack to the north. For those looking to book a trip this spring the time is now. Opening bags are limited. Ed and Fritz has a decent afternoon today, here are a couple of the fish they put in the net. 

Muskegon River Steelhead

Steelhead fishing was action packed today with well into double digits landed before noon and the action kept up after lunch too!!   Dan and Bob went home with sore arms after their first time back bouncing spawn for Steelhead on the Muskegon River.

Muskegon River Steelhead

Back bouncing for Steelhead was outstanding for us today, lots of dropback fish that are on the feed after spending the energy it takes to spawn.  A good portion of these fish are already looking very healthy again and a few even had us fooled into thinking we were on some fresh arrivals until they hit the net.  The good fishing should hold atleast through the end of the month or a bit longer if we get another little shot of chromers.  Ed did work on the Steelhead today, he is pictured below with just a few of the many landed.

Float Fishing for Steelhead

Steelhead fishing was great again today, float fishing has been great for us as we are finding lots of Steelhead feeding in small pockets.  There are a lot of dropback Steelhead around but we are seeing a handfull of pre spawn fish each day as well.  Fred and Rick are pictured below with a couple of the Steelhead they caught float fishing today.

Dropback Steelhead

We decided to avoid the weekend fishing pressure in the upper river and go back bouncing spawn for dropbacks today, it turned out to be a great decision.  We did see a couple of boats but those were just joy riding enjoying the weather, no other fishermen!!  The fish we hooked today were on fire making long runs and getting some good air.  Tomorrow brings my only day off for quite some time, Happy Easter.  Chaz, Mike and Bob are pictured below with some of today's fun.

Muskegon River Steelhead

Float fishing for Steelhead has been insane the last few days for us!!  There are plenty of willing biters in the dark water around gravel areas feeding on the eggs that are being deposited by the spawners and as long as you have the right imitation it's game on!  We are seeing a mix of pre and post spawn fish each day and with the slightly cooler nights the drive to spawn may atleast slow down enough to prolong things a bit more.  Dropback Steelhead numbers are increasing daily and should be targetable for those looking to get away from the crowds.  Below is  just a couple pics from the last 2 days of gimme fishing.

Steelhead Fishing on the Muskegon River was great again today in the high water.  Unseasonably warm weather has water temps above normal and the fish have taken notice.  Mark and Jim are pictured below with a few of their fish from a short day on the river.

Muskegon River Fishing Report

Yesterday's rain put some color in  the river and the fish seemed to like it this morning as the bite was good.  Todd and Gene were into double digit hookups in the first two and a half hours of the 5 hour trip!  There were a mix of chrome, semi bright and dark fish today with one buck that was either ready to spawn or he thought he was a dairy cow!!!  Boat traffic has been minimal which makes for an even more enjoyable day on the river.  I have some great dates open for March and "very" limited openings in April so call soon to book your Spring Steelhead trips  (616)204-4999.   Todd and Geno are pictured below with some of today's fun.
