Muskegon River Steelhead

Back bouncing for Steelhead was outstanding for us today, lots of dropback fish that are on the feed after spending the energy it takes to spawn.  A good portion of these fish are already looking very healthy again and a few even had us fooled into thinking we were on some fresh arrivals until they hit the net.  The good fishing should hold atleast through the end of the month or a bit longer if we get another little shot of chromers.  Ed did work on the Steelhead today, he is pictured below with just a few of the many landed.

Spring Steelhead Fishing

There is not much new to report on the fishing, lots of fish and lots of boats.  Water is still up and has good color but is starting to drop and clear up, bring on some rain!!  Craig and Keith were with me today and put a good number of Steelhead in the net.

St. Patty's Day Steelheading

Wow,  I hate to even say it but the weather has been too warm.  If this keeps up I will want to leave early for Alaska!!  On the other hand the Steelhead fishing has been incredible on the Muskegon River so I guess I will put up with 80 degrees in March.  There is a growing number of bright chrome Steelhead showing up and we are still catching quite a few darker Winter fish mixed in with them.  While the boat traffic is condensed there are good numbers of fish available in areas with very little traffic.  Back bouncing Spawn has been producing good numbers of Steelhead for us each day.  I am down to this monday March 19 and April 7, 8 for full day openings, half day afternoon trips and full days with other guides are available as well.

Michigan Winter Steelhead

Steelhead fishing on the Muskegon River was good again today.  Deb and Jim had a good number of hookups in the 5 hours we spent on the water.  Muskegon River water level has dropped and cleared a bit but is still in good shape, temp is about 35.  There are some newer fish in the system along with the winter holdovers.

Super Sunday Steelhead

Fished a 5 hour half day with Tom and Jim today and the fishing was pretty good.  Back bouncing spawn was the method of choice.  Boat traffic was pretty light compared to the last few days.  I am down to tuesday and friday open for this next week for anyone interested in getting out on the river.  Below are a few pics from yesterday and today's half day trips.

Pere Marquette River Steelhead

Steelhead fishing was great on the Pere Marquette River today.  Back bouncing spawn produced most of our fish but we did hit a handfull float fishing as well.  Fishing should remain great on our West michigan rivers well into the new year with these mild temps so give me a call to get in on the action.  Ed and Fritz are pictured with a few Steelhead from today.

Muskegon River Steelhead

While this has been a very good Fall / early Winter for Steelhead, today was the first day I felt like we had to work for our fish.  We caught enough Steelhead to keep it interesting but they just did not come easy.  Mike and his son Matt are pictured below with a few nice December Steelhead from the Muskegon River.

December or November Steelhead??

Following yesterday's rain the water level on the Muskegon River has risen to about 2,800 cfs. and has about 4 feet of visibility which is right where I like it!!  The fishing was good and the fish fought like it was November 15 not December, they were jumping all over the river and burning line off the reel like they were shot from a cannon!!??  We caught a good mix of bright chrome Steelhead and a few that were colored up and about an equal amount of hens vs. males.  Here is Ed with a few of the nicer males he caught today.

12/15/2011  This fish took Ed for a ride.

Michigan Steelhead Fishing

Fished the last 2 1/2 hours before dark tonight with my father-in-law Jim and found plenty of Steelhead willing to keep us busy.  River level bumped up for a short time today but is back down already, it did put a slight stain in the water which was nice to see.  Water temp is still holding in the 40's keeping the fish fighting like it's November!!  Jim and myself are pictured below with a few fish from this afternoon.

Muskegon River Steelhead

Muskegon River Steelhead fishing was exceptional again today, the wind was a bit unpleasant but the non stop action kept our minds off of it.  We ran into a mix of darker fish along with plenty of chrome bright Steelhead which tells me the recent rise in water level is moving new fish into the system and moving older ones out of their hidey holes.  The first week or more of December should fish great so don't hesitate to call (616)204-4999 for more info.  Our winter Steelhead rates take effect December 1 this year,  $200 half day and $300 full day.
