Pere Marquette River Steelhead

Ben and Todd joined me on the lower Pere Marquette River today for some Steelhead action and action is what they got!!  The fishing was very good and the fish went absolutely nuts when hooked, screaming line off the reel and flying out of the water, all you could do was hang on and hope they didn't make it to the timber before you could slow them down.  Ben and Todd are pictured below with a couple Steelhead from today.

Muskegon River Steelhead

Today was the last day of eight for the boys from North Hampton, England and Andy from Ireland.  The fishing was nothing short of fantastic!!  We are looking forward to their return in the fall of 2013.  Here's to a safe trip home and see you next year, "cheers"  (with my refined, proper english accent of course).  Thanks to the guides that did a fantastic job, Gabe Nyblad, Tim Vangessel, Jeff Bacon and Mike Dragon, the guys had a great time and are looking forward to next year.  Muskegon River water level is up and down lately but the fishing has been very good.  I have November 9 open for anyone looking to get out for some Fall Steelhead fishing and don't hesitate to call or e-mail for open dates with other guides.  Lee and Dan are pictured below with a couple nice Steelhead from today.

Muskegon River Kings and Steelhead

There a few Steelhead moving into the Muskegon River,( though not in big numbers), along with a decent push of new Kings after the rain.  Most of the Kings seem to be making tracks for the upper river to hit spawning gravel and the Steelhead are in tow looking for an easy meal of eggs.  Fishing around concentrations of spawning Kings is the best bet for finding the few Steelhead that are around.  Andy and Andy are pictured with a few fresh Kings and Steelhead from today.

10/20/2012  Not to be outdone Andy finds a good one.

Muskegon River Steelhead

There are a couple Steelhead showing up after the recent rain, they are not here in big numbers but with some persistence a few can be caught.  Salmon are still filtering through and are by far the better bet for numbers at this time.  Aaron and Steve are pictured with a couple very nice Steelhead from today.

10/15/2012  We had to work for them but persistence payed off with a couple good ones.

Fall Steelhead

Steelhead are showing up in the Rivers of West Michigan and the rain that we are getting today should give us a little more water and the Steelhead a little more motivation.  Got out this morning with Jackie before my afternoon guide trip looking for some chrome and the ones we found were on fire, she is pictured below with a bright chrome buck Steelhead.

Fall Fishing on the Muskegon River

The Muskegon River is still very low and clear but there good numbers of Salmon around and a limited number of Steelhead.  We had some good action this morning float fishing for Kings but there is definately not a ton of fish holding in the pools.  Ed and Fritz are pictured with a couple skein eating Kings and a great Steelhead Fritz caught back bouncing.  I still have November 8 open if anyone wants to get in on some Fall Steelhead action.

Kings and Steelhead

We started out the day float fishing skein for Kings and the bobbers were dropping, after picking up a Steelhead in the mix we were motivated to get after them.  The next thing you know the kicker motor was running and we had another Steelhead within minutes back bouncing, now we are real excited thinking it's go time but that was to be it until later in the day after switching between fishing for Salmon and hitting the occasional likely spot for Steelhead finally picking up one more.  There are not many Steelhead around yet but the fact there are any at all in these low water conditions is promising and with the amount of Salmon on spawning gravel it's only a matter of time before the scent of eggs draws them in if we don't get the water we desperately need.  Brian is pictured below with a nice skein eating King and a couple Steelhead from today.

10/10/2012  I thought Brian had another King when the float took a dive and up came a Steelhead.

Muskegon River Fishing Report

Water level is very low and clear but Salmon numbers are good.  We need rain badly and lots of it,  it would really kick the King run into high gear along with the fall run of Steelhead.  There are a few Steelhead around right now but the numbers are yet to show up.  I had November 8 and 9 open up recently for anyone looking to get out after some fall Steelhead, these are prime dates and they won't last long.  Bob is pictured below with a nice Steelhead caught amongst the Salmon today.

Bobber Down!!!

Float fishing for King Salmon was very good on the lower Muskegon River today.  Mike and Bill went to work on the kings with floats and skein landing well into double digits with more than twice as many fish hooked.  Muskegon River water level is very low and clear, Salmon numbers are good and Steelhead are there just not in big numbers yet.  Below are a few pictures from today's Salmon beat down.

Michigan Salmon Fishing

We have been doing well float fishing for Kings as the slow steady push continues.  There are not huge numbers of fish coming through but with very little boat traffic there are enough to keep the bobbers going down.  There are a handfull of fall Steelhead around and the numbers are slowly increasing, we will be targeting them asap.  For anyone who wants to fish Steelhead this fall I have a small number of openings in November and other well qualified with plenty of other openings so don't hesitate to call or e-mail  (616)204-4999  jeff@muskegonriverguide.com
Below are a couple pictures from the last few days, look for much more regular updates here now that internet has been reconnected at home.
