Steelhead

Steelhead fishing has been good and there are a good number of fish in the Muskegon River.  Water has dropped to around 6,000 cfs. but is still very dirty with only about a foot or less of visibility.  Here are a couple fish pictures from today and yesterday.

Spring Steelhead Fishing

Steelhead fishing has been great for us lately.  Flood waters on the Muskegon River are receding and we are fishing there again after spending the last week on other area rivers due to boat ramps being shut down on the Muskegon.  Water level is high at 7,000 cfs. with very heavy color and water temp is in the low to mid 40's.  There are fresh fish mixed in with older winter holdovers and new fish will continue to show up for the next few weeks.  Here are a few pictures from the last few outings.

Spring Steelhead Fishing

We had a good day float fishing for Steelhead today.  The Muskegon River is flooded and boat ramps are shut down, my best guess as to when they will re-open would be a week from now.  I am on a decent number of fish on another river which will remain unnamed and we should be able to fish it until the Muskegon is fishable.  Here are a few pictures from a productive day on the water today.

The flood of 2014

The Muskegon River is flooded and all public access is shut down until conditions become safe.  The only good news is water temp is still in the mid to upper 30's and the bulk of our Spring fish had not shown up before the flood so Steelhead fishing should stretch well into May.  I did find somewhere to find a few fish today and while it was not hot and heavy we did catch fish and it's an option for those who cannot reschedule their dates into May.

Muskegon River Steelhead

Steelhead fishing on the Muskegon River has been a little slower than normal for this time of year, water temp is still on the cold side in the mid 30's.  There are some new fish showing up but not in the big numbers we should be seeing right now.  That being said we are putting fish in the net every day and making the best of it.  Steelhead fishing will go late into May this year so for anyone that wants to get out then I have some full day openings after May 12 and I still have a few afternoon 5 hour trips available before then.  Here are a couple pictures from the last two days.

Dalton with a nice fresh Steelhead.

This buck gave us a ride!!!

April Steelhead

Steelhead fishing on the Muskegon River has been good.  Water level is about 5,000 cfs with some color and water temp is cold for this time of year in the low to mid 30's.  There are more Winter fish around right now than anything but a few fresh fish are in the system.  Look for a good push of bright chrome Steelhead once the ice comes off Croton pond allowing water temps to rise in the river.  We have been catching most of our fish back bouncing and float fishing with eggs but plugs have taken some nice fish as well.  Steelhead fishing should be excellent well into May this year so there is still time to get a day booked.  Here are a few pictures of fish we have caught recently.
