Muskegon River Salmon

Salmon fishing remains great for us on the Muskegon River.  There is a good number of fish spread throughout the system but the heaviest concentrations are in the upper sections from the Croton Dam to Newaygo.  We should have good fishing for biters for the next couple weeks as long as we keep getting new fish from the lower river.  Here are a few pictures from yesterday and today.

Muskegon River Fishing Report

There are Kings in the Muskegon and the bite has been good for us for the last week.  We are mostly float fishing but have had fish biting crank baits early in the morning and on cloudy days.  Water is very low and clear making for some spooky fish in the bright sun so the bite can be traffic dependent some days. Below are some photos from the last few days.

9/26/2013  Randy with a very nice hen that inhaled and egg cluster.

9/26/2013  Jim with another egg eater from this morning.

9/25/2013  Ed put on a float fishing clinic.

9/25/2013  Fritz with the first of the day on a crank bait.

9/24/2013  Jeff with a healthy girl.

9/24/2013  John with a nice mid day egg biter.

Michigan King Salmon

Salmon numbers are good in our West Michigan rivers with pushes of new fish after the recent rain and cooler weather.  Casting crank baits, float fishing and back bouncing eggs have all put fish in the net for us recently.
Barring any cancellations I am booked solid until late November and have just a handful of openings then,  We do have other guides with some openings so don't hesitate to call and give us a chance to put on some great fishing.  Here are a few pictures from the last couple days.

Ed with a good start to the day, this tank weighed 30lbs.!!!

Float fishing was good today.

Leland with a nice King he caught back bouncing eggs.

John with one of his fish from yesterday.

Jim and Mark with a double header from the Manistee on Thursday.

Muskegon River Salmon Fishing

There are enough Kings in the Muskegon to fish for but by no means is it game on.  We should see a good push soon with cool night time temps and some rain would also help.  Ed and Fritz had a productive afternoon float fishing for Kings despite a noon time start.

I still have September 25, 29 and October 8 available for King Salmon this fall for anyone interested.

9/18/2013  A nice hen from the Muskegon River.

9/18/2013  We had a decent skein bite this afternoon.

Manistee and Pere Marquette River Salmon

There are good numbers of King Salmon in both the Manistee and Pere Marquette Rivers and I have been splitting my time between the two.  Fishing has been pretty consistent for us with a decent amount of hookups every day float fishing and casting hardware, the biggest variable is how many of those fish make it to the net before they find wood to bury themselves in.  After a good rain a few days back and these cooler night time temps we should see another good shot of fish from the lake.  Anyone looking to get out this fall for Salmon on the Manistee, Pere Marquette or Muskegon River should call now for one of the few openings I still have.
Open dates for Salmon are September 25 and 29.  October 8
It's also time to finish off the fall Steelhead bookings and here's what I have left.  November 24, 26, 28 and 30.
I have other guides with openings as well so don't hesitate to call just because the day you want is not listed above.

Here are a few pictures from this past week.

Tom with a Manistee River King caught float fishing.

Pete with a skein eater on the PM.

Ed getting it done on the Manistee.

Stu with a crank bait biter on the Pere Marquette.

Brian with a Manistee hen.

Gerald had to work this fish out of a mess of logs on the PM.

Michigan King Salmon

It's been great to be home fishing for Michigan Kings over the past few days.  We are hooking a decent number of Kings every day float fishing and casting hardware, landing them however is another story.  The rumors of big fish I was hearing are true with a good number of the fish we have hooked being in the upper teens to mid 20's.  Trying to keep these things from running you straight to the wood has been a chore.  Here are a few we have landed over the last couple days.

I have a couple openings for Salmon fishing this fall so don't hesitate to call or e-mail if you want to get out after these tackle busting giants.

September is here, the weather has turned from warm sunshine to cool rain and bad visibility making for tough flying conditions with all the mountains surrounding us.  As I type this we are waiting for weather to clear so we can fly, our scheduled destination being 100 miles to the west with two mountain ranges to pass it might be time for plan "B".  The fishing however has been great with rivers full of Coho Salmon, spawning Sockeye with Rainbow Trout, Dolly Varden and Arctic Char all having a feast on the eggs and snags full of expired King and Chum Salmon carcasses for the Trout that have had their fill of eggs.  It's been another great season in south west Alaska but it is time to go home,  I travel over night Friday, make it home Saturday morning and I will be on the river Monday morning.  I've heard the weather has been a bit warm there so I will do my best to bring some fall weather with me.  I still have just a handful of open dates for this fall season on the Muskegon, Manistee and Pere Marquette Rivers so if you want to get out let me know soon.
