Manistee River Steelhead

There are good numbers of Steelhead below tippy dam feeding on the huge number of Salmon eggs and sight fishing has been common for these chrome bullets.  Egg flies and beads drifted with indicator rigs and bottom bounced with chuck n duck rigs have both been producing steelhead for us.  Pictured below is Craig and Andy with a couple nice Manistee River Steelhead.

Easter Weekend Steelhead Fishing

Well between Good Friday and today these had to be the two busiest days on the Muskegon River I can remember,  there are plenty of fish around between the fresh ones in the dark water and spawners on gravel bars.  The number of dropbacks should be increasing daily which is an option for those that don't want to get up in the middle of the night to camp on their gravel bar.  The hens we caught back bouncing spawn today were still tight with the exception of one which had just started dropping eggs.  Ed and John are pictured below with some nice Steelhead from today.

Manistee River Steelhead

Fished the Manistee River with friends and guides Kris and Chris today, the bite was great considering we didn't hit the water until 10:00 am and fished behind 6 to 8 boats most of the day.  We even caught a couple bonus Lake Run Brown Trout, Kris is pictured below with the more substantial of the two.

Steelhead!!!

Steelhead fishing just doesn't get any better than the last couple trips we have had.  Ed and Scott joined me on the Muskegon River Sunday and landed more Steelhead in a half day than anyone could ask for in 2 full days.  I had a much needed day off Monday, only my second since returning from Alaska back in September, then Ray and Colin joined me for what would be another unbelievable day.  Despite the forecasted high winds we decided to hit it anyway and put just shy of 20 Steelhead to the net by 11:30 a.m. when we called it quits not because of the wind but sore arms.  With rising water levels look for another surge of fresh chrome Michigan Fall Steelhead to charge up river and join the already healthy population of our chrome friends.  Steelhead fishing should be nothing short of fantastic through November so if you are thinking of a guided trip I suggest you wait no longer as open dates will fill up soon.  Call or e-mail for more info or to lock in a day.

Manistee River Steelhead

Fished with Clark, Bob, Jim and Gary Wednesday and Thursday on the Big Manistee River, we hit a good number of Steelhead each day and even landed a handfull of nice adult fish.  The Steelhead season on the Muskegon River started with what was almost a hostile takeover by skippers, (16 to 20 inch)  Steelhead.  Over the last 5 days we have recieved a good shot of larger adult fish and there will be even more on the way with the rain coming down right now and more in the forecast.  Considering the number of Steelhead in the local river systems right now the last week of October and the first 2 or 3 weeks of November will no doubt provide excellent Steelhead fishing.  Give me a call if you want to get out and experience the excitement of leaping chrome fall Steelhead on the Muskegon River this November.  (616)204-4999
