Cold Steelhead
Bright sunshine, boat traffic and single digit air temps made us work hard for our fish today but we ended up hooking a good number of Steelhead by the time it was over. The forecast looks good after this little cold snap so cross your fingers. Here are a few pictures from today.

Michigan Steelhead
Not much has changed on the river, fishing is still pretty good. The water did drop to around 1,500 cfs. and the boat traffic has increased. Water temp has been climbing into the mid 30's from the near freezing mark on warmer days but today it was 35 at the start. Lets hope that is enough to keep tomorrow's frigid morning forecast from turning the river to slush. Took the day off to fish with good friend Dan, who I have guided with in Alaska since 2003 and fishing was great, today Brandon and Shannon were out with me for the morning and we had a pretty good bite going. Space on my calendar is limited to mostly afternoon half days which are a great choice in April with longer daylight hours, I do have a few days available in May as well. Here are a couple pictures from the last two days.

Muskegon River Steelhead
It was another one of those cold mornings with slush flowing heavily, we decided to start at noon in hopes the slush would clear but were not that lucky. We had to move further up river to find non frozen water flowing. We had a pretty good afternoon hooking a bunch of Steelhead back bouncing and float fishing. Most of the fish were darker holdovers but we know there are some new fish on their way from the last few days fishing further down river. I have March 18 and April 9 open for full day trips and a number of days with afternoon half days available in April as daylight increases. Fishing has been good and should only get better once Spring weather decides to show up for more than a day or two at a time. Here are a couple fish that Ryan and Ed landed this afternoon.

Steelhead Fishing
Steelhead fishing was good for us today, Craig and Mike were both new to back bouncing but both seemed to pick it up pretty quickly. They put a good number of fish to the net and more than anyone wants to admit were lost (craig). We even found a very hungry Lake Run Brown that had two hooks with spawn bags, a minnow and the spawn bag we caught it on all in it's mouth, after a little dentistry and a quick picture he was released to only be caught again within 5 minutes!! That's the second time I have witnessed that this Winter, these Browns dropping back might eat more than a drop back Steelhead. A fun day was had by all and I look forward to fishing with these guys again.
