Winter Steelhead Fishing

Muskegon River Steelhead Fishing is good for mid December, water temp has slipped into the upper 30's and is very clear.  Winter pools and woody areas should not be overlooked right now, fish them thouroughly and confidently.  Ed (pictured below)hit a good number of Steelhead back bouncing spawn this morning.

Michigan Out Of Doors

Kris McHugh of Fin Patroll Charters, Dan Lipski of River Kat Guide Service and myself took Jenny Olsen from Michigan Out Of Doors back bouncing spawn on the Muskegon River today.  The Steelhead fishing was pretty good but as Dan found out if you don't have a good hold on your rod the fish may just take it from you!!!!  I am glad we were in Kris's boat because we were fishing with Kris's rods, if you find this rod please send a picture of the fish attached for Dan's ego and Kris's peace of mind.  Jenny missed Dan's error by seconds but catch the rest of the action on Michigan Out Of Doors, the show will air december 22 on your local PBS station, if you are out of the viewing area check back here for a link to the video.  Also MICHIGANOUTOFDOORSTV.COM

Pere Marquette Float Fishing

Jim, Kris and I fished a different section of the Pere Marquette River today than I did yesterday, floats and spawn was the method of choice and the fishing was outstanding.  There were a few holes where we wondered how many fish can be in there, as the hookups just kept coming.  The Steelhead definately seem to be in the Winter holding water and were rarely alone.  We had the river to ourselves which I am sure contributed to the excellent fishing.  Jim and Kris are pictured below with a few Pere Marquette River Steelhead caught float fishing.

Pere Marquette River Steelhead

Steelhead fishing on the Pere Marquette River was very good today.  It was a fun change of scenery fishing in tight quarters, while this was the first day I have fished the PM since Salmon season it seems to me there are more than enough Steelhead available.  I had a great 4 days of fishing with my father-in-law and my wife on the 2 days she joined us, they are pictured below with a sampling of today's fish from the Pere Marquette River.

December Steelhead on the Muskegon River

Steelhead fishing on the Muskegon River continues to impress this early December.  Below is Jim with a few Steelhead from a short morning trip.

Michigan Steelhead Fishing

Fished the last 2 1/2 hours before dark tonight with my father-in-law Jim and found plenty of Steelhead willing to keep us busy.  River level bumped up for a short time today but is back down already, it did put a slight stain in the water which was nice to see.  Water temp is still holding in the 40's keeping the fish fighting like it's November!!  Jim and myself are pictured below with a few fish from this afternoon.

Muskegon River Steelhead

Steelhead fishing on the Muskegon River is great so far this December.  Water temp is still in the 40's which is a contributing factor to the quality of the fishing and the fight these fish are putting up.  Back bouncing spawn bags has been and continues to be very productive for us this fall.  We have had large amounts of Steelhead migrate up the Muskegon River this fall and in turn should have excellent winter fishing.  Give me a call if you want to take advantage of some great winter Steelhead fishing.  Natalie and Jim are pictured below with a few nice fish from today.
